Life isn’t fair!
Years ago I was involved in three car accidents in the space of 2 months. The first time the guy behind me at the lights wasn’t paying attention and rear-ended me. The second time, the taxi guy was watching the flow of traffic, and assumed that I saw a gap in the stream of traffic that he’d spotted and rear-ended me. The third time, a young woman overtook even though my turn signal was on and hit into the driver’s side of the car.
When I went to the doctor after that last accident, she took one look at me and knew that I was physically and emotionally damaged. It took weeks of physio-therapy to get back on track and concentrated sessions of mentally letting the fear and anger go before I was able to drive confidently again.
Sometimes it feels like the world is conspiring against us. Sometimes we have valid reasons for believing that we are victims. And it is OK to feel this way, however we can also choose not to BE this way. As many social media posts suggest “acknowledge the feeling, learn from the feeling, do not become the feeling.”
Our feelings are like alarms or guideposts, they are not labels or identities. Choosing healing and growth may seem impossible especially if we have lived with pain for a long time but it is possible.
